Otolaryngology is a medical specialty which is focused on the ears, nose, and throat. It is also called otolaryngology head and neck surgery because specialists are trained in both medicine and surgery. An otolaryngologist is often called an ear, nose, and throat doctor, or an ENT for short.
ENT department in Women Medical College provides students with complete education in the comprehensive medical and surgical care of patients with diseases and disorders that affect the ears, nose throat, head, and neck. The educational program combines core basic science knowledge of otolaryngology and the communication sciences with the clinical aspects of diagnosis and medical and/or surgical therapy for related ailments. Medical students are expected to perform clinical skills, to take part in, and to assist with the activities performed by the consultants or residents as well as to observe. Fourth year medical students are expected to demonstrate their ability to take a history, perform an ENT examination, and make an assessment and plan on patients in the clinic with supervision by a consultant.
